Red Cross ambulance driving through city streets. People standing on streets with signs for the Russian soldiers. Men gathering at noon for organised industrial strike. People returning membership cards of the Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship Union. Young people walking through city streets.
An armoured vehicle driving through the deserted streets of Prague; cars, buses and people at a standstill. Graffiti written in Russian alphabet is daubed on walls. Crowds watching tanks driving by.
Russian army officers carrying large cardboard or plywood boards to make refuge from the rain. Soldiers crowding around tent.
Saturday August 24th. Occupying troops taking up positions on bridges stopping cars and conducting searches, confiscating newspapers, cameras and radios.
At the East German Embassy, Prague, occupying soldiers are continuing acts of aggression. Prague hippies issue a statement: 'Boys and girls increase the sexual tension of the intruders'. Other citizens handing out copies of Russian Pravda printed from the Czech presses. Helicopter flying over Prague with Russian airmail.
Soviet cameraman taking pictures from an armoured car. Crowd gathering in Wenceslas Square with banners. People signing petition to ask United Nations for help.
Large queues forming for transistor batteries so as to listen to independent radio. Broadcast asking railroad workers to detain train carrying radio jamming equipment. Czech citizens removing town and road signs.
National assembly continuing to debate; delegates remaining in the building even at night.
Sunday August 25th. Southern Bohemia. People reading regional party newspaper outside local church. Streets throughout the Czech Republic are given the Czech leaders names. People covering walls with posters. Replacing windows riddled with bullet holes. Prague city square with soldiers, tanks and artillery.
Day six. Monday, August 26th. Tanks are still stationed in Wenceslas Square. Shot of statue covered in flags. Young people congregating. Tanks driving past. People weeping.
Tuesday, August 27th. People scrambling to get newspapers. Tanks have disappeared overnight from government house and from the entire city centre. The Czech delegation is returning from Moscow. Crowds applauding as Czech troops and police resume the guarding of all important buildings. Announcement of Moscow negotiation broadcasting publicly.
Crowd listening to voice of Alexander Dub?ek over radio. Last demonstration takes part in front of the National Assembly building. Parliamentary speaker announcing opinion of national assembly.
Prague at day break the following day: the monument of Jan Holtz, posters, graffiti, shot windows, the bullet-ridden exterior and interior of the National Museum. Flowers, photographs and candles burning, dedicated to those who have lost their lives.
